The laboratory of Maria Skłodowska-Curie

maria-curie

Maria Skłodowska-Curie was one of the most outstanding figures in the world of science. Born in Poland, she studied and worked in France. Together with her husband, a French physicist – Pierre Curie – she discovered two radioactive elements – polonium and radium. She was the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize and the first person in the world and the only woman to receive this award twice – in two areas – chemistry and physics. She was friend of Albert Einstein. As one of the first women she made a driving license. She was not afraid to break old rules in the world where woman were just starting to fight for their rights.

I am very impressed by the achievements of Maria Skłodowska-Curie and therefore I decided to honor her in a way that I am the most familiar with – with a LEGO® creation. By voting we can make the scene an official set. Let’s do it!

Writes Krzysztof Słomowski also known as Crises, my Zbudujmy.to! colleague,  in his LEGO IDEAS submission. I think the project is worth supporting, and spreading around, so lets all help to make it a real Lego set!

You can vote for this project here and then remember to visit Krzysiek’s Flicker account, as he has some more cool builds in his account. I always admire him for putting so much story into his builds!

Meet us at Pixel Heaven

Boulder Dash is going to Pixel Heaven

Pixel Heaven is a great retro-gaming, indie and demo scene event in Poland. It is being held for the 5th time, and this time there will be also Zbudujmy.to‘s exhibition there.

It is being held between 26 and 28 of May in Old Bus Depot, at  Włościańska 52 str. in  Warsaw, POLAND. Except usual attractions we will have town diorama 25 square meters in size, plus selection of game and geek related models especially build for the event. You will also be able to play with interactive brick models and build your own creations. We will also have resolution of our Brickheads contest, well at least the gaming part of it. The rest of the contest will be held online so if you want to take part in it there is still chance, here are the rules. If Polish is not your language and you want to take part, then let me know in the comments and i will explain it.

Crazy Builders will be also present there, and Jetboy will be giving out presentation about similarities of the demo scene and the AFOL world. This time presentation will be in Polish, but we are already thinking about making a version in English.

Event bricks are ready already:

As the event is taking place in the Bus Depot, we have also something built for that occasion by one of Zbudujmy.to forum members Pablo :

Next week in Bytom!

This is more for Polish readers, but if you want to come from abroad, you will be also very welcomed. Next week Zbudujmy.to is organizing another exhibition in Bytom/Poland. Entrance is free.  More info on the poster below.

We will be there, so expect  extended coverage within 2 weeks.

Alternative models of 911720 SW Ghost

LUGPol is just running a contest  where you need to make  alternative models of  911720 SW Ghost  foilpack.  I prepared a few ideas.

Minifg’s Gym

I wanted to create something not obvious, so my first choice was a gym. Is that obvious? Not for me, as i cannot recall when i was last at the gym…

From left to right: drink water tank/resting place, squeezing bench, barbells stand, stepper bench.

Unused elements: 0

Dragster

Almost any set with wheels can be turned into Dragster. This one does not have wheels per se, but as you see can be turned into a dragster anyway.

Unused elements: 2

Starfleet

If you can make a dragster out of the set, you can turn it into a spaceship, if you cannot make a dragster, then you can make it into a spaceship, or a fleet of.

Unused elements: 0 (well, one is unattached and is used only to level one of the ships)

Nexus and his dog

“Nexus and his dog” used to be a theme of one of the old contest. Thos time Nexus is quite robotic and the dog resembles more a turkey then the dog.  Well, at least all parts are used 🙂

Unused  elements: 0

look from behind:

Race

Snail vs Turtle race has to be fierce! Either way we have something for animal lovers.

Unused elements: 14 (shame on me!)

That was  only a warm-up.  We only can put one build into the contest, so here is my entry. Wish me luck!

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you are my only hope!

I’m happy i kept the SW theme here.

Unused elements: 12 (quite a few, but the result was worth it, and it was no requirement, but i always challenge myself to try to use all elements)

Wish me luck!  And write what else would you like me to build out of this set?

Vampire State Building

Vampire State Building is a skyscraper i  built for another LEGO Poland event. This is pretty simple, but the  goal was to build skyscraper that would  be easy to transport and  children-proof . If it was not for that i would go more crazy with ornaments and  fancy wall shapes.

If you look closely , you will find 2  lines where bricks are not fit together – that’s because i needed to get out of my apartment split into 3 pieces , after photo session.

Krusia, my faithful helper rabbit builder helped me putting all those  bricks together. It took us about a week, and about 16K bricks. There will be  time-wrapped  video of us building it soon, but for now take a look at some more photos:

Tan’thu the ancient entity

Tan'thu the ancient entity

Tan’thu was built by Micah Beideman with some help of his friends. This build proves that tires are one of the best pieces to create organic shapes  when you turn them inside-out. Also if you wonder what is mouth piece built with, it is bottom jaw from Ninjago  dragon. Pretty clever piece use.

Is it possible that we have the MOC of they year in the very beginning of January? Either way, if this year starts with such masterpiece, i’m looking forward what the rest of the year will bring.
