Golden Studs Awards 2019

Golden Studs Awards is a yearly event where Zbudujmy. To! awards best Polish brick builders. Let the title not mislead you. 2019 edition run at the beginning of the year is actually for the builds that were published in 2018. Judges who are top builders themselves  chose pretenders and then select winners form among them in 12 categories.  Works are taken from both polish lugs and polish internet and exhibitions. This year results have been just published. And this time i also won one of the categories \o/  Here are the categories and winners with short description form judges:

Imaginator

Category description:  Innovative idea, or new approach to old ideas. It’s more about entire build than interesting building techniques. Winner: jetboy for  3… 2… 1… START!

Obrazek

Quintesence of microscale. Great thing built out of few bricks. Great dynamics of the launch of space rocket. Genial in simplicity.
Animator
Category description: Best use or posing of minifigs, “giving life to minifigs”
Winner Janek for Punkt Agonii / Tymczasem w postnuklearnej Rosji… (Point of Agony / Meantie in postnuclear Russia…)

Obrazek

Well earned victory for giving “life” to “dead”  minifigs.
Kreator
Category description: Best non minifig character – built out of the bricks – humans, animals, robots, etc.
Winner JAREMA for Alien Queen

Obrazek

Not the first time Jarema proves he is master of characters. Except perfectly realized shape of Alien Queen there is lots of NPU.
Konstruktor
Category description:   Model of vehicle, ship or other contraption designed by builder, or know only from book description.
Winner Ciamek for Goliath

Obrazek

You can feel the mass and power. Such a crude mecha, well fitting vision of alternative WWII. It is so different to mechs we all know from other media. It has it’s own style. Ciamek did it again!
Modelator
Category description:  Model of vehicle, ship or other contraption  existing in reality or known form movies, comic books, art, etc. In this category we judge how faithful to the original model is and creative depiction of hard to build details.
Winner Mateusz92 for Alstom Pendolino ED250 PKP Intercity

Obrazek

Mateusz and his train themed models are impressing us for long. It is no different with Pendolino model, which except phenomenal look is fully functional (has full lightning) and adds to each display she rides on.
Mechanizator
Category description: Vehicles and stationary models having moving functions.
Winner eric trax for Amazone Pantera 4502

Obrazek

Eric trax each time surprises us with his vehicles. Each time it seems he reached the top, and each consecutive creation of him seems to be better.  His topic selection, exotic color schemes on models that are not often built out of Lego bircks made the work that left no chances for runners up.
Innowator
Category description: Use of new building techniques, unusual solutions and surprising parts usage.
Winner Servator for Steampunk Monowheel

Obrazek

Servator for long time is building small models in steampunk style, which gives chances for unusual piece usages, but in the case of this monowheel he reached the tops.  Using “useless” turbine makes for a great NPU.
Murator
Category description: Interesting and cleverly built architecture, interior or scenery.
Winner Insomnia for Layers City

Obrazek

Insomnia with his  Layers City presented fresh approach to city building giving builder opportunity to express himself on three levels, and viewer a chance to feed his senses multiple times on the same area of diorama. Great concept and execution!
Reduktor
Category description: Smaller than minifig scale.
Winner Toltomeja for  Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza w Krakowie

Obrazek

Next work that is perfect example of microscale build. Here you can see entire part of the city built realistically.  It depicts AGH in Krakow. If it was built in minifig scale it wouldn’t fit in most of the exhibition halls, but as a microscale it can pu put on the table, and still everybody familiar with AGH will recognize aech building easily. We are impressed with completeness and size of the build.
Kondensator
Category description: Smaller than 256 square studs.
Winner Janek for Neo Tokyo 2039

Obrazek

Janek with such a tiny model managed to describe future history and give the feel of the post apocalyptic city so well, we would want to see more of this metropolis,

Chosen One – Public Award

Winner Insomnia

Przegląd tegorocznych prac:
Obrazek

Last year’s New Hope, this time most popular from advanced builders, what an instantaneous career! Insomnia builds MOCs small and monumental, happening in the past and future, sterile and messy, but always full of interesting details, colorful and extremely climatic. We wait for more!

Congratulations for all the winners, if you want to see all the contenders please go to Zbudujmy To! forums.

Celebrate 60 years of the Brick with Zbudujmy. To! and LEGO.

The prizes are set that Lego made for the 60th anniversary for 3 top entries, and some polybags will be drafted among all participants – the more entries – the more polybags!

Moon 1969 – first step on the moon.

Here is another entry for Ideas’s LEGO Moments in Space contest. This one depicts first step of the moon. If you want to have it as gift with purchase set on Shop@Home, please vote for it here.

Funny story is, when i started building it got a little bit carried away. The number of elements is right, as both versions have about 300 of them, but the size is 2 times too big 🙂

I like the look of it a lot, but the contest version is the small one.

Please also check my other try at this contest here:  http://crazy.builders/2018/02/10/3-2-1-liftoff/

3… 2… 1… LIFTOFF!!!

This is my entry into LEGO Moments in Space contest on IDEAS.

If you like it,  please vote and it may become Gift with Purchase Set available at Shop@Home.  The set has 2 modes – first is the rocket standing on a platform that can be great ornament on any shelf, second is the rocket in the very moment of start, which looks even greater.

Here is a closer look:

Spend a Night in LEGO House!

Unleash your imagination, bring your wildest LEGO vision to life, and fall asleep surrounded by 25 million bricks.

BILLUND – November 2nd – Airbnb and LEGO® House unveil today their most BRICKtastic overnight experience to date. For one night, the newly opened LEGO House in Billund, Denmark will become one family’s private playground. Aspiring master builders, young and old, are asked to put their imagination to the test and describe one thing they would build together with their family if they had an infinite supply of LEGO bricks to enter for a chance to win a night in the LEGO House.

Winners of the contest will enjoy the LEGO House all to themselves for a whole night. They will sleep in a dream LEGO bedroom under a giant LEGO waterfall and create their winning entry with the skillful support of the host, Jamie Berard, one of the finest Master Builders in the world and a true expert of the brick.

“I am so intrigued to see what people will imagine”, says Jamie Berard, Design Manager Specialist at the LEGO Group. “We have unlimited bricks here, and in some ways it can be a bit challenging but it also liberates you to imagine something that is truly meaningful and expressive. The uniqueness of the opportunity to stay in the home of the LEGO brick should hopefully inspire everyone. That’s how I feel when I come here”.

The full experience will begin on November 24th, when the winners will arrive at the LEGO House to be greeted by Jamie who will welcome them to their home for the night. First, they will enjoy lunch where they will be tasked with building their order out of LEGO bricks before it’s sent to the kitchen to be made into real food and served by two friendly robot waiters.

After lunch, the house will close to the general public leaving it empty and ready for the winners to run through the rooms, explore and play under the expert guidance of Jamie. First, they will marvel at the foot of the Tree of Creativity, built by hand from over 6 million bricks. Moving onto the Masterpiece Gallery, showcasing LEGO creations from fans from around the world. From there, they will move on to the Experience Zones where they will be able to direct their own movie, engineer robotic cars, design cities and much more. Nostalgic adults can head down to the basement to trace the timeline of LEGO history and reminisce over the most iconic sets ever produced.

As the adventure comes to an end, they will be invited to the final stop on the journey – a bedroom floating underneath a 6-metre-tall LEGO waterfall, surrounded by a pool of bricks. The whole space will be transformed into a home fit for a superfan, with all items made totally out of LEGO bricks: the teddy bear, lamps, the alarm clock, the TV, story books, and even a pet cat! The home consists of two bedrooms, with beds nestled in pools filled with LEGO System and LEGO DUPLO® bricks, as well as a living room, where the winners can cozy up in LEGO armchairs while enjoying some LEGO TV. But before drifting off into their most colorful dreams ever, the winners will need to get to grips with the endless supply of bricks and bring their winning entry to life.

“Airbnb is all about helping people find magical and unforgettable travel experiences. What could be more magical than having the brand new LEGO House all to yourselves for the night? This really is a dream come true for any family with a passion for LEGO and I doubt there will be much sleeping as there is so much to enjoy in this incredible space,” says James McClure, Airbnb’s General Manager for UK and Nordics.

Third 2016 LEGO Ideas review results!

So we now have long awaited third 2016 lego ideas review results!

Here is list of competing projects and results:

A big congratulations to JakeSadovich77 on becoming the next official LEGO Ideas fan designer!

As an avid LEGO builder, Jacob Sadovich was inspired to create his LEGO Ship in a Bottle, The Flaship Leviathan, following a real-life ship in a bottle that he had built just a few years ago.

There was also one more project selected to be made Lego Ideas set:

Voltron – Defender of the Universe

A big congratulations to len_d69 on becoming the next official LEGO Ideas fan designer!

Leandro’s passion for Voltron started at a very young age when his parents bought him a Voltron toy. From that moment on Leandro was hooked. Building with LEGO bricks allowed Leandro to celebrate his passion for Voltron – Defender of the Universe even more.

And next time one of the following sets will be made official LEGO Set.

What do YOU think it will be?

Alternative models of 911720 SW Ghost

LUGPol is just running a contest  where you need to make  alternative models of  911720 SW Ghost  foilpack.  I prepared a few ideas.

Minifg’s Gym

I wanted to create something not obvious, so my first choice was a gym. Is that obvious? Not for me, as i cannot recall when i was last at the gym…

From left to right: drink water tank/resting place, squeezing bench, barbells stand, stepper bench.

Unused elements: 0

Dragster

Almost any set with wheels can be turned into Dragster. This one does not have wheels per se, but as you see can be turned into a dragster anyway.

Unused elements: 2

Starfleet

If you can make a dragster out of the set, you can turn it into a spaceship, if you cannot make a dragster, then you can make it into a spaceship, or a fleet of.

Unused elements: 0 (well, one is unattached and is used only to level one of the ships)

Nexus and his dog

“Nexus and his dog” used to be a theme of one of the old contest. Thos time Nexus is quite robotic and the dog resembles more a turkey then the dog.  Well, at least all parts are used 🙂

Unused  elements: 0

look from behind:

Race

Snail vs Turtle race has to be fierce! Either way we have something for animal lovers.

Unused elements: 14 (shame on me!)

That was  only a warm-up.  We only can put one build into the contest, so here is my entry. Wish me luck!

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you are my only hope!

I’m happy i kept the SW theme here.

Unused elements: 12 (quite a few, but the result was worth it, and it was no requirement, but i always challenge myself to try to use all elements)

Wish me luck!  And write what else would you like me to build out of this set?

Ingenious Dwarves and their Magnificent Creations

Another entry for Summer Joust Contest 2016. This time BHs, Johan and Goldsun of Zbudujmy.to created their contest entries, losely based on a Tolkien poem.

Far over the Misty Mountains cold (Johan)
To dungeons deep and caverns old (BHs)
We must away ere break of day,
To claim our long-forgotten gold.(Goldsun)

“The Misty Mountains”, autor: J.R.R.Tolkien

Using Tolkien here is a little bit strech as there were no airborn dragon hunters, nor the mechs, and Dwemerium is part of Elder Scrolls saga, but if you take this away, those works are quite nice. Take a look at the pictures:

Dragon Hunt by Johan

Dwemerium by BHs.

Steam Princess and the Seven Dwarves by Goldsun

If you click on the photos you should be taken to the appropriate flickr albums. And i keep my fingers crossed for this Team too.

Faun Valley – Summer Joust 2016 Contest entry from Zbudujmy.to

Just a few days ago submission deadline for Summer Joust 2016 Contest has passed.  One of the entries from Zbudujmy.to was Faun Valley project built by Dzidek, Filozof and Toltomeja

The Fauns are a small community leading its peaceful life close to the nature. They are known for their love for apples. As a community they love the red apples the most. But the green ones are also desired as they are used for making the greatest cider in all the lands known.

The green apples are transported to places like this where they are manufactured by Fauns into cider. Fauns love their work, milling and pressing the apples, although it is not easy. The drink is then distributed among the folk of Faun Valley.

Every year the Fauns gather at the Shrine to thank Nature for the treasures it has given them. Among them, the sweet red apples that the Valley is famous for.

I keep my fingers crossed for the guys, and i wish them luck, as competition is strong.
